In 1875 the Fassbinderei (cooperage) Pauscha was founded in today's Slovenia by Jakob Pauscha. In 1929 Jakob Pauscha junior took over the company which he headed until 1945. After the family had fled from Slovenia during the second world war, they settled down in Weitensfeld/Carinthia. At that time Jakob Pauscha and his son Bruno lead the company. In 1951 the Pauscha family moved to Wolfsberg in the Carinthian Lavanttal. In 1959 Bruno Pauscha took over his parents' company. The Lavanttal is a famous Austrian fruit growing area, the best reason to introduce must casks to the company's product range.
Only Slavic oak was used for the production of cooperage, as it was supposed to be the only suitable wood at that time. The manufacturing of these barrels was made in pure handwork and the high-quality storage casks were exported to wineries in Italy and Southern Tirol.
